AmpKit - Guitar amps & pedals App Reviews

Amazing

Better than the recommended software for my i rig!! Only downside is that extra stuff is kinda expensive, other than that great interface and functionality!

Review the app, not the hardware....

The negative reviews seem to all be about the hardware. Ive used Ampkit since the first version and started with the original Link. I now use a different input device and have only great things to say about the app. The user interface is simpler and easier to use than other apps and with the ability to unlock everything at a big discount, you get way more options for less money than the other apps. It may not be flashy and slick, but it runs more reliably. No problems with inter-app audio or Audiobus. Love the ability to share back and forth with friends. This is a solid app that started out strong but has been improved continuously and is now one of the best out there for the money. As the mobile devices have gotten better, Ampkit has harnessed the available power and the latest version running on an iPhone 6 or newer iPad is simply flawless.

Great app, bundle worth the money too!

I am not a musician, and am just learning to play the ukulele. I am terrible, but this app has made the practice time I need go by so quickly because it is so fun. I really am just learning cords and getting my fingers/hand to move right, but the amazing variety of amps and effects means I never get bored during this tedious time. The sounds are amazing and the variety is endless.

Awesome with digital interface

Bought the "everything", great to have all the presets. Sounds excellent.

This app rawks!

Buy this one! So much better than the others I compared it to (GarageBand, amplitube, jamup) and you get a one time offer to unlock all Amps and effects for $19.99 (way cheaper than the competition). Classic and high gain Amos sound awesome and the effects are plentiful and great. I use it with a traveler guitar and an irig. Wanted something better than the mediocre tone of GarageBand. Ampkit blows it away. Comes with preset amp/effect chains that sound great too. You can tweak signal chain, cab, mic and save as new presets. You wont be disappointed.

A must have

If you play guitar and you dont have this app, you are missing out! So simple to use, no need to carry tons of equipment such as cables and pedals, this thing is amazing!! Only thing I can ask for is an interface where u can easily interchange set ups for real time jamming! Its kinda hard to quickly change your pedals if u are playing along with a song or if youre jamming live but that aside, this app is everything a musician can ask for!!

Best there is, just wish it supported...

The Behringer iStudio. Sure i could buy another interface but right now i dont have the money. Apparently is supports the IO Dock, so Agile Partners needs to support the iStudio dock as well. Edited: found out that it is indeed supported. Means i dont have to use the wasted money that was Jamup

Bloodsuckers

I open the app for the first time. Im faced with a one time offer of in app purchases. I havent even tried this offer yet, and already there trying to strong army and purchasing plug-ins. Then another lesser of a deal offer. And then another. No dice. That kind of marketing means instantly I do not trust you. Next app please! (Further investigation shows that the hardware required is no longer available on Amazon.com)

Updates please

Sounds great but has not been updated in over a year except for bugs.

The most underrated amp sim on iOS, probably the best too...

I have purchased all of the major iPad amp apps with full upgrades, getting all in app purchases. These include: Amplitube gets a lot of attention online because of the name brand amp models but it sounds very thin and noisy, taking a long time editing and trial & error to get some decent tones. JamUpPro/BIAS is better but the expansions are pricey and the higher gain amps and some clean tones are still noisy. Yanocs ToneStack is like AmpKit, very underrated, sounds are quite good but the layout is a bit difficult to use quickly. Now Ampkit, Peavey & Agiles app, is the most like playing with an amp, and the sounds are really good. The clean tones have nice sheen and tube sag when you dig in, the dirty tones are very tube like and even the high gain models (the usual shortcoming of amp emulators) arent too noisy or fizzy to use. My favs are the Bassman model, the Vox AC30 model that breaks up nice with volume control roll up and lastly the HiWatt amp is sweet, using a Strat and neck pickup position produced some excellent lead tones straight from Cream era Claptons playbook. Very nice job by the developers and worth every cent to upgrade to get everything, the stomp models are excellent too.

Powerful

This app has some of the best tones and tube-like sound Ive heard and I own amplitube which is a little weak and tinny compared to Ampkit. I got the complete package and it comes loaded with presets and also the options to download patches over the Internet.

Great tone

A fully loaded AmpKit wont disappoint! Great tones! My only request would be a variety of reverbs in the pedal section

What more could you ask for?

I love this app. I use my iRig to connect and for less than the price of a real distortion pedal I unlocked everything! This would have cost me thousands back in the 1980s. Ive spent weeks experimenting with all the different options and it can make almost any sound for guitar or vocals. Plus, the guitar tuner is simple and perfect if you use exotic tuning (Drop B etc). It works great with Audiobus and its like having access to the entire guitar store on your phone. A must have app for any guitarist.

Just meh.

I read the reviews on this before giving it a try. I am disappointed. I was expecting a bit more start up play pretties to get the feel of the app and its capabilities. Sounds alright I suppose but I am not wowed enough to buy anything. Not when I have GarageBand and amplitude to play with. Why even bother with a "free" version?

Tried and true workhorse

Ive used this app numerous times in live settings, and in the last couple of years have used a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller to trigger effects and switch settings (connected via iRig MIDI, with guitar connected via iRig Stomp in the headphone jack). No noticeable latency with the foot controller, and minimal latency in regards to sound. Same sound latency via 30-pin guitar interface. If you are an audiophile and tone snob, then walk away and go plug into your tube amp. If you require a variety of usable tones, then this app is great. Very tweakable, with lots of deep functions if you take the time to explore and experiment. For instance, you can have the same amp and effects settings for two different guitars, but have one setting with the input gain set higher for a guitar with lower output pickups. You can have an effects-only setting to feed through the effects loop in your amp, if you prefer. Lots of possibility here that I still have to experiment with. Ive had this app on my iPad 3 since I bought it, and only very recently have I seen some indication that the iPad may have some trouble keeping up. Ive put lots of time and $$ to collect hardware and in-app upgrades to have a usable virtual rig, and I only have great things to say about my experience using Ampkit. Fantastic app.

Ampkit

Pretty cool app, only thing is, when I first set it up, they offered all amps n pedals for $29.99, went to buy it and it went away m charged my card $12 for a smaller setup with mostly distortion pedals, any suggestions ?

Great app, but irig stomp support please

Im disappointed theres no support for the irig stomp

Sound not nearly as good as Amplitube

Bought an iRig2, realized the app only includes a few options and the rest are $$$. Tried AmpKit and bought the $9.99 upswell before actually trying it (just read reviews here) It sounds terrible. I tried most of the presets available in the $9.99 pack (a small subset of the total available) and nothin sounds good. Lots of noise/hum/feedback even King Clean sounds muffled and "noisey". Amplitube just works and sounds great. Try before you buy!

Unlocking all amps works on only 1 device

I have an iPod and an iPad. I paid the full price to unlock all of the amps and effects. However, it only unlocked them on one device. If I want to unlock them on the other device I have to pay the full amount again. Jam up, Bias and Amplitube work on all my devices without having to pay for them a second time. Agile is a rip off. I want my money back. Plus, what if one of my devices breaks and I need to purchase a new one. I would have to buy this app all over again.

Awesome Tone and Options

Update: The more I use this app the better it gets. Found the backing tracks function built-in to the app that is loaded with drum and other instrument backing tracks to jam to. You can record and loop the backing tracks and select whether you want to record them on your track or not. It also has a "re-amping" widget that allows you to record a track using one amp and then with a single click, run the track though another amp set-up on AmpKit. I recorded a clean track and re-amped it to a high-distortion amp and it sounded incredible...very cool and easy to use function. Went ahead and bought the full package with all amp/cab/stomp and it is AMAZING! Thinking about getting the IK Media Blue Board which is bluetooth and core MIDI compliant to I can control my AmpKit amps and stomps hands-free on my iPad. The sustain on AmpKit holds without breaking. Did a fast legato run up and down the fret board last night and it sounded better through AmpKit than if I was plugged directly into my Peavey amp. AmpKit rocks hard, sounds amazing and is packed with options. - This app is the best amp simulator for ipad. Have tried several others and they sound subpar compared to Ampkit. Purchased the Meteor amp and holy smokes does it rock! Sound is amazing. When you buy the amp, th matching cab comes free. Ampkit comes with built-in recording function so you dont need to run it through another app to record your tracks. But you can if you want to. This app is uber user friendly on the ipad. You can run and play it through Garage Band but in my opinion it doesnt sound as good as running the app by itself. Lots of in-app effects, amps, and cabs that you can purchase for a couple bucks. I play heavy metal so I only purchased a couple of amps. Built-in sound gate works great too. Cant say enough good things about this app. Sound and functionality is spot on. Rock on!
