Blows the competition out of the water
I am a big fan of guitar amp modeling technology. I bought the first Line6 amps, I owned several Pods and I use modeling software for my Mac on a daily basis so I have an extensive background for comparison.
I have to say I am really impressed with AmpKit and AmpKit LiNK.
When IK Multimedia came to market with their iRig + AmpliTube for iPhone solution I hesitated because I already read about the cooperation between Agile Partners and Peavey with their ostensibly superior hardware design and as an owner of Guitar Toolkit I knew that Agile understood a thing or two about user interfaces. But being the gadget freak that I am I couldnt wait and bought it.
When it arrived I hooked it up in excitement only to be completely disappointed with the way it sounded. Typically for IK Multimedia the interface was completely and utterly worthless but on the desktop version at least the amp sounds were decent.
Not so on the iPhone. It seems they tried to work around the feedback issues of their passive design of the iRig in their software by using heavy Noise Gate algorithms.
When AmpKit arrived in the AppStore I downloaded the free version to test it with my iRig. The clean sounds were already a LOT better than the ones AmpliTube was able to create but when I tried out the high gain settings the output signal became one big screeching noise. That was the moment I decided to sell the iRig and get an AmpKit LiNK instead. I never looked back.
By now I bought almost every pedal and amp model in their gear store and they all sound great.
Being the owner of both the infamous Marshall JCM900 and the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe I can testify that the sounds are spot on.
The collection of pedals available is comprehensive and the collection of amp models leaves almost nothing to be desired. I was especially impressed with the Peavey models and it seems that I undeservedly overlooked their amps for years.
The only piece of gear I really miss is a Tremolo pedal but I already sent a suggestion through their website and they were incredibly friendly saying theyll consider it for one of their future releases.
AmpKit is by far the best piece of software I ever bought from the AppStore. I really love it and have used it every day since.
